At Blue Water Farms you and your horse will be trained only by very experienced, skilled, well qualified, adults. There are many programs to choose from. We encourage you to review our trainers credentials, as you are considering the right program for you, your horse, or your child.

Yasmin Emery-Brownlie

Head Trainer / Owner

Yasmin is a California native whose involvement with horses spans over 45 years. She attended college and graduate schools on the East Coast while also spending nine years training with Olympic veteran and coach, George H. Morris. Following a successful junior career, Yasmin worked at numerous barns, and participated in show jumping competitions throughout the US and Canada. She was the owner and head trainer at South Lake Equestrian and following the sale of that facility, shifted her concentration to family and horse sales. In 2010, Blue Water Farms was opened.

Blue Water Farms horses and riders have achieved successes at the local, regional, and national levels. Blue Water Farms believes in life long learning and coaching and continues to host elite training sessions on a regular basis.


Dakota Emery


Dakota has been involved with horses from the time she could sit up. She has had a very successful junior career. She competed at National Pony Finals in KY and was a top equitation competitor. She additionally achieved numerous successes in the hunter ring and had many victories in the jumper divisions competing to the Grand Prix level. She has worked with many of the best professionals in the industry including, but not limited to George Morris, Bernie Traurig, Archie Cox, Bert Mutch, Joe Fargis, and Anne Kursinski.

As a junior, she had opportunities for many catch rides and worked as a training assistant for several competition and sale barns.

As a young professional she has been the winner of a National Hunter Derby, won many hunter division championships, and achieved many wins in the jumper arena.

Dakota is an enthusiastic instructor. She is a skilled, and gifted horsewoman. Blue Water Farms is honored to partner with Dakota.


Michelle Hartt

Academy Instructor/Assistant Barn Manager/Media Consultant

Michelle Hart is a new addition to our barn. She is no newcomer to horses, with experience that spans over twenty years. She has had countless hours teaching on the ground and giving students a great start in the saddle. She additionally has gained professional experience working with children as a tutor, piano instructor, and childcare specialist for the past 18 years.

Her primary focus and specialty is working with beginners, regardless of age or background. As an instructor she is patient, disciplined and fully prepared to teach young riders how to be successful at each level. Michelle has come to be known as “Mary Poppins of Equestrian Instruction.” She is noted for using discipline and fun to teach students the critical skills necessary to function in any riding program, while helping them to reach their future goals and shoot for the stars.

After studying Psychology in San Diego and Early Childhood and Development in Santa Cruz, she has the tools necessary to bring her students’ success. Michelle understands the challenges of developing the early equestrian athlete and has the skills to teach safety, solid basics, and care and compassion for our equine partners.

Behind the scenes, she helps keep our horses well cared for and our barn running efficiently. We also enjoy her media skills. She is certified in both CPR, First Aid.

Michelle is a welcome asset at Blue Water Farms.

Scott Brownlie

Facility Management/Owner

Scott is originally from Carmichael, CA. His background is in engineering and construction. He is a tremendous asset to the current facility design and management, as well as to future building, planning, and development.
